Takis Barberis was born in Athens in 1963. He studied classical guitar under teacher Dimitris Fambas and started playing the electric guitar with several rock groups. He started his involvement with jazz in the late ’70s. In 1982, he played the first of his compositions with the group Jazz Fusion Quintet, along with David Lynch and Takis Farazis. In 1985, he became a member of Iskra, next to George Fakanas, Nikos Touliatos and Leonidas Pliatsikas. Then he formed the rock band Model 63, which released an album in 1988.
Since 1990, when he started his own career, he has released 7 albums. He has worked with most of the known Greek jazz musicians and many other Greek and foreign artists like Petroloukas Chalkias and the famous Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu. He has appeared in America and in various famous festivals.
In his new album “Jargon”, he continues with an entirely personal style of presenting jazz blended with elements of funk, rock, Indian, African, Balkan and Greek music, which offers an ideal environment for improvisation.
