Arion Gyftakis was born in Kalamata in 1995. He started playing the violin and then the electric bass. His interest in jazz led him to the double bass and at the age of 14 he started studying with Sylvios Syrros for four years, while also studying classical double bass. In 2013, he achieved to receive the Full Presidential Scholarship to study at the Berklee College Of Music.

Upon his return to Athens he started collaborating with remarkable Greek musicians, such as George Kontrafouris, Yiannis Papanastasiou, Andreas Polyzogopoulos, Christos Rafailides, Billy Pod and more. He also formed various groups, with which he works on his own compositions. Διδάσκει στο Ωδείο Athenaeum.

He is a member of the Spiral Trio. The band’s debut album was released in 2017.
