In its first appearance a year ago, Syros Jazz Festival was style oriented. All group participants had the exact same setup, consisting of piano, bass and drums, though each of them saw this classic jazz band from a wholly different perspective

This festive season, year of culture for the South Aegean Region and the 150 years anniversary of the Apollo Theatre, the festival expands in length and appearances, hosting six bands, none of which has the same structure as the other. In their ranks we find some of the best Greek improvisers, with important work and remarkable career both at home and abroad, but also some of the talents that represent the best of what the new generation of musicians has to show in our country. Next to them, a great trio from Luxembourg, who for nearly three years has been creating a sensation with its presence in Europe as well as America

Besides concerts and believing that a festival must have educational character, Syros Jazz Festival this year offers a masterclass, which will enable those involved to contact or broaden their relationship with the art of improvisation

If every first attempt is dominated by excitement, the second shows the progress and prospects for maturation and establishment. In this sense, we believe the success of the 2nd Syros Jazz Festival will show that the organization has the potential to become a reference point for the audience that loves improvised music
